merlekitty @ 5:21pm:
We went to the "maker faire" today. Bleah, it was lame... it was like 6 small tables strewn out across the two different museums (the science and the nature parts). It was worse run than a bad convention. One of my coworkers was supposed to be there but we couldn't find him, so we wonder if he thought "screw this!" and went home too. Still, I enjoyed just looking at the museum, it was neat. We did also see them perform, though we missed them play the Doctor Who theme. We did hear it from the auditorium though. I'm tempted to build one now... so if my house catches on fire, that's probably why. :) I wanna ask them why they only used square waves to make the tesla coils make music... can the tesla coil only reproduce square wave functions?

chefakito @ 11:15pm: And this is just two rooms
Got paint. Got rollers. Got drop-cloth. Got walls that need paintin!!!!!!! Dining room and living room done. Two coats. 5 1/2 hours total. Man that was a work out All that's left is the final wall behind my couch. That is going to be a different color than the other walls. Already it looks pretty spiffy. I left the doors and the windowsills their original color and I dig out they stand out. Even the way the one wall is white looks... off... but in an interesting way. So either tomorrow or Saturday, I'll either paint the final wall or head out to Bed/Bath and get the rods and mounting stuff for the curtains. Thank god my sister works there... I gets a discount :D

From a bunch of folks. If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the Internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.
maryadavies @ 6:44pm: All right. Who put that SNAKE in the laundry?
Article hereSeems like a woman found a snake in the laundry. Serious. A python. Now, I'm not afraid of snakes, not at all. I know if that happened to us and it was Mom, you'd hear her screaming clear 'cross the country. (She-hates-snakes. Hence why I know one of the forbidden pranks is to use a realistic rubber snake; if I did that when I was little, I'd get my butt tanned) So I find this amusing, but I can understand why the lady was concerned. Could of been a poisonous snake and not a python...

mother diagnoses daughter on internet after doctors fail it. Everyone on the internet already knows that I basically do not trust doctors at all (sry to any MDs on my flist but all you guys are is butchers with better maps) but also I have an irrational secret fear of getting lyme disease. We have a huge yard on top of a mountain surrounded by empty lots of tall grass so it's pretty valid to be concerned about ticks. I generally pull a couple off the cats every few days and I am pretty paranoid about the children wearing all long clothing tucked in every time they venture beyond the rock path. However I just have always thought it would be spectacularly hilarious if I contracted lyme on top of all my other physical ailments. What are some other tips for avoiding lyme disease dear internet?

merlekitty @ 10:41am: Note to all humans
I've said it before and I will continue to say it: I am a robot. If you tell me something, I will listen. I will be your friend. That also means if you want me to care, you can't one day expect me to stop caring simply because you don't want me to anymore unless you expect me to also stop being your friend. If you want to simply be my friendly acquaintence, never open up to me and you'll never have the problem of me "butting in". Thank you for your input. Beep beep.

alexclau @ 9:00pm: Last day, this time for real
So today was my last day as a schoolteacher. I went to school the last three days for the Sports Festival, which was in the morning only. Today my friend Ken joined me. He was born in Japan but moved away with his parents at age 4, and spent 20 years living in America. Due to some immigration issues, he became ineligible for permanent US residency, and moved back to Japan about 3 years ago. So he's fluent in both Japanese and English, but he had never been to a Japanese school before today. ( Read more... )

vibratingsheep @ 12:50pm: I know how I'm going to grow old now.
Following a lunch conversation about that Palo Alto man who fabricated a story about a mountain lion attack, most likely to drive people away from a Palo Alto-only park, I have decided what kind of crazy old man I'm going to be. No cats, dogs, or collections for me, no sir. I'm going to be a Mountain Lion Guy. And not just any mountain lion guy. I'm going to pick up where this guy left off. I'm going to be a Scooby Doo villain mountain lion guy. I'm going to be out there in the hills in a mountain lion costume scaring away punk kids. "Get off my land! I mean ROAAAAAAAAAAAAR!" Yep. That's the way to go.

chefakito @ 2:00pm: Power Outtage!
Well no, not yet. Apparently we're suppose to have a power outtage here at work. But there was a seamless cut over to generator power which is good however all the servers I need to work are are not on that back up system so I got bupkis to do. In the meantime I've been reflecting on my new abode. I got new furniture, kitchen stuff, I have inherited some cookware and china, even a dining room set. It's as if I got all the stuff you're supposed to get when you get married; only thing missing is the significant other. How ironic :P Happy apartment lifestyle, just add wife. *Note: Happiness may vary. The older generation in my family says how I should have a house apartment-warming party and people will shower me with more stuff and money. I'm like, "Great, what's left to get that I already haven't shelled out for?" I would like a 42" LCD. that would be great :D How about some booze? I do need a bottle of Sambuca for my espresso. How about it? I'm ready to be showered up on. Grace me with your presents! And presence!

Well, teaching myself action script again, after... what... 8 years? I just did a quickie code with balls that bounce. Each time it hits the ground, the change from a green to black ball. You can also grab and move them around. ( Flash test! Not safe for those with epilepsy? )Nothing special, just playing around with stuff. I hope to make flash games, maybe. But not for a while, that's for sure.
danakate @ 9:10am: Fruit Identification and Pic Spam Post
I'm up early for a Sunday. The Calders came back from their trip to Argentina (Bink, Bob, their 3 kids, and whole bunch of her family). Their flight arrived around 6:45am and I went to pick them up at the airport. The kids were a bit cranky. ;) In any case, I debated going back to bed after I got home, but I wasn't feeling sleepy, so I decided to do some yardwork. I pulled some weeds and then tackled the apple tree. I have no clue what kind of apples these are. I don't think they're crab apples, but I could be wrong. They're fairly small. Some are smaller than an inch across, others are nearly 3 inches across. And boy there were a lot of them. The local wildlife has been munching on them, too, since I found a couple half-eaten apples with clear bite marks. Since one was up on the fence railing, I'm guessing it's squirrels. I didn't find any dead squirrels, so they're at least not immediately toxic. Anyone know what these are? I'd done a search a while ago and came up with "russet apples" but I don't know. Left: The bucket of apples I collected. It's a little deceiving, since not the entire bucket is filled, just the top tray. Right: A closeup of one of the larger apples. And now, pic spam. ( AeroGarden update )( Boring FiOS Install pics )And finally, I went to the farm this weekend. I hadn't been in a while. Baloo, one of the rottweilers, isn't doing too well. He can't really walk on his own right now. He had undergone back surgery a few months ago for a busted disc and now things have started backsliding. He's in good spirits, though, and the Dennys are doing what they can to keep him comfortable and pain free. I'll post a few special ones, so Here's a link to the whole gallery. ( Aminals!
